Vaughn Shoemaker God Guides My Pen Biography with Sketch (Van Kamper Press, 1949). Vaughn Shoemaker, one of the more influential political cartoonists, contributes a fine original cartoon of his most famous character -- John Q. Public -- to the inside front cover of this biographical (and very pious) booklet-essay by Shoemaker's fellow Chicago-based journalist, William F. McDermott. Nine of the 24 pages are given over to an array of Shoemaker's cartoons, with a full page devoted to his famous "The First Christmas Gift" image. Original ink drawing image area, 6.75" x 7".
