Description

Samuel D. Ehrhart Puck Magazine Original Art (Keppler & Schwarzmann, 1905-06). Though better known for his political satires, Ehrhart also excelled at humor for the sake of humor -- a quality that is concentrated in this fine study of an awkward encounter on ice skates. Puck was a key ancestor of MAD Magazine and its many kindred titles, and this fine piece catches a key contributor at a peak of accomplishment. The artist is sometimes mistakenly cited as "Ehrhardt." Rubber-stamp documentation on reverse indicates editorial processing in 1905 and publication in 1906. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 9" square. Pronounced toning and handling wear, but the condition of the art itself is Very Good.
