Description

Roy G. Krenkel Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins Page 108 Illustration Original Art (Canaveral Press, 1963). "Golden Opar -- Where La, High Priestess of the Flaming God, Reigns Supreme." La makes her dramatic entrance in this illustration opening Chapter 14, "The Sun Worshippers". Perched amid the crumbling grandeur of jungle ruins, Krenkel captures the regal beauty of La with a perfect balance of allure and savage authority, every bit the fierce ruler of the lost city of Opar. First introduced in Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Return of Tarzan, the queen would go on to become a recurring figure in later Tarzan novels as well as in films and serials. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 8.5" x 13.25". Toning, minor foxing, smudging, and marginal notes. Signed in the lower center image area and in Very Good condition.
From the Howard Lowery Collection.
