Robert Crumb Zap 7 Minicomic Logo Illustration Original Art (San Francisco Comic Book Company, 1972). In the lull between Zap Comix #6 and 7, Gary Arlington got an idea. Gary ran the store known as the San Francisco Comic Book Company, where a number of Underground artists would hang out, trading original art for vintage ECs and other old comic books. At the time, eight-page mini-comics were becoming popular, most priced at seven cents. Gary decided to create his own seven-cent issue of Zap, with some of the traded art he had on hand, including this cool Zap logo that was created by R. Crumb in 1968 for the iconic series, and rejected at the time. The art is in ink on a cut piece of sketchbook paper or thin board, with an image area of 7" (what else?) x 3". We love the caricature of Groucho Marx peering out from the top of the "Z," complete with his trademark cigar. Big Baby, Mr. Snoid, Honeybunch, and others also appear. The art is matted and framed with glass for an overall size of 14" x 16". Other than a minor bit of handling wear, it's in Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
