Robert Crumb Weirdo n°15 Parodie de Publicité (Last Gasp, 1985). Zone d'image, 41 x 51 cm. Excellent état.

Robert Crumb Weirdo #15 Advertising Parody Original Art (Last Gasp, 1985). Crumb's most ambitious publishing project, the multi-artist Weirdo series of the 1980s-90s, is back in the popular consciousness in 2018 via historian Jon B. Cooke's comprehensive The Book of Weirdo. This splendid ink-and-wash drawing is Crumb's homage to those great old MAD Magazine advertising parodies of the 1950s and '60s. The subliminal images in particular satirize the advertising industry's tendency to sneak hidden emotional triggers into commercial images. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 16" x 20". Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
