Description
Robert Crumb HELP! Magazine #25 Illustration Original Art (Warren, 1965). Here is a pivotal example of Crumb's emergence as a founder of the Underground Comix movement. The page represents an assignment from HELP! editor Harvey Kurtzman to chronicle the artist's visit to the Communist Bloc nation of Bulgaria. A combination of documentary narrative sense and sarcastic irony, the section called "Bulgaria: A Sketchbook Report" included this drawing of official Bulgarian clothing -- functional, and utterly devoid of style or character. Ink on textured art paper, with an image area of 6" x 9.25". Lightly toned, with minor tearing at the left spiral-binder edge. Very Good condition.From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
