Description

Robert Crumb HELP! Magazine #25 Illustration Original Art (Warren, 1965). A turning-point example of Crumb's development as a founder of the Underground Comix movement, this piece stems from an assignment from Help! editor Harvey Kurtzman to chronicle the artist's visit to Bulgaria. A combination of documentary narrative values and satirical irony, the piece called "Bulgaria: A Sketchbook Report" included this drawing of female-oppressing factory conditions, "free from decadent Western 'momism.'" Ink on textured art paper, with an image area of 7.5" x 5.5". Toned, with marginal spot-staining (oxidation), and in Very Good condition.
From the Denis Kitchen Collection.
