    Description

Robert Crumb Help! #22 "Harlem Sketchbook" Illustration Original Art (Warren Publications, 1965). An illustration from one of R. Crumb's first big public outings of his art. Although Crumb went to work for American Greetings Corporation in 1962, he really didn't begin to make his artistic mark until Harvey Kurtzman published "Fritz Comes On Strong", a strip Crumb had done at home in Cleveland, and sent in to his Mad and Humbug hero. In 1964 Harvey extended an invitation to come to New York to try out for the magazine, and "Harlem Sketchbook" was his first result from that trip. This piece is drawn in ink on paper, with an image area of approximately 8" x 4.5". In Very Good condition.
