Description

Paul Pope - Akira Illustration Original Art (2021). A stunning homage created as a centerpiece for the Philippe Labaune Gallery tribute to Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo. Kaneda leans back on his iconic motorcycle, spent by the violence and pressure of Neo Tokyo. The speed is gone, but the weight of what came before still hangs in the air. Best known for his visceral art for Batman: Year 100, Heavy Liquid, and Battling Boy, Pope filters Otomo's dystopian vision through his own loose, muscular line and expressive ink to a moment defined by exhaustion, defiance, and aftermath. Created in mixed media on paper with an image area of 23" x 29". Signed and stamped in the image area by Pope. In Excellent condition.
