Description
Norman Saunders, Wally Wood, and Bob Powell Mars Attacks! Trading Card #48 "Earthmen Land on Mars" Painted Illustration Original Art (Bubbles, Inc./Topps, 1962). This infamous series of 1962 bubble gum cards, inspired by a Wally Wood EC comic book cover (Weird Science #16), was beloved by kids raised on science-fiction films being shown on late-night television. Naturally, they caused quite an outcry from parents and community leaders who were shocked by the violent images. They were quickly discontinued, and the 55 published cards became instant collector's items. This incredible piece, featuring layouts by Wood, tight pencils by Bob Powell, and finished renderings by Norm Saunders, is only the fourth original we've seen from the set, and the first we've offered to fully depict the bulbous-headed Martians -- it's a knock-out! Painted with gouache on bristol measuring 5.25" x 3.5", matted to an overall 14" x 11", ready to frame and enjoy. It's in Excellent condition.More information about Norman Saunders.
