Description

Norm Breyfogle Funky Winkerbean "Starbuck Jones #54 Cover" Illustration Original Art dated 2-16-2014 (North American Syndicate, 2014). A truly stellar cover for the story "The Death of Starbuck Jones". Don't worry, he will probably come back after being replaced by a female version of himself, a boy version of himself, a robot, and a dog. (You know how it is with comics.) Crafted in ink over graphite on bright white Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 16". The logo and cover text are all paste-up. In Excellent condition. Comes with a color print of the published piece. Auctioned to benefit Lisa's Legacy Fund.

More Information:

The Lisa's Legacy Fund was established in 2007 following to raise money for cancer research and education at Cleveland's University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Readers of the Funky Winkerbean strip will recall that Lisa was a character in the strip who battled cancer, in a storyline that made writer/artist Tom Batiuk a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Now, Tom is focusing on a new way to raise money for Lisa's Legacy Fund. He's auctioning original art by some of his favorite comic-book artists who in recent years have contributed to Funky Winkerbean by drawing 20 faux covers, to go with a storyline in which Funky's wife tries to complete her son Cory's comic collection while Cory is serving in Iraq.

Tom explains, "I knew I wanted to do a bunch of comic-book covers in Funky and I didn't want to get sued by Marvel or DC, so I said let's do Starbuck Jones. Then I thought, "What if I could get some guys whose work I have admired to create these faux comic book covers?"

If you don't win one of these lots, or if you do and wish to contribute more to Lisa's Legacy Fund, you can do so online at:
