    Description

McDonald's Playland Hamburglar, Officer Big Mac, and Apple Pie Tree Original Art Group of 4 (McDonald's/Setmakers, 1974-81). Setmakers designed the iconic decor and playground equipment for McDonald's restaurants throughout the '70s and '80s. These are the original one-of-a-kind graphite renderings of four of those items. First is a three dimensional wall plaque of the Hamburglar caged in Officer Big Mac's custom Paddy Wagon. It includes scale measurements, design notes and color call-outs. It also features a full scale rendering of the Paddy Wagon sign. The artwork with notation measures 13" x 18" on 18" x 23.5" vellum which is signed by the artist Wes Cook and dated 3/7/74. The second drawing is the original plan for a proposed Hamburglar Paddy Wagon slide. Side, front, and three-quarter views are tightly rendered and include an array of design notes. The artwork fills the 19" x 23" sheet of vellum which is signed by artist Wes Cook and dated March 6, 1981. The third drawing shows proposed modifications to a Playland staple -- the Officer Big Mac Climber, notably the addition of window shields and ventilation to his hat. The artwork and design notes fill the 18" x 24" vellum which is signed by artist and Setmakers' founder Don Ament and dated 6/10/84. The fourth drawing lays out the seating plan around a three-dimensional Apple Pie Tree. The artwork measures 15" x 16" on 18" x 24" vellum. It is initialed by the artist and dated 4/7/77. All pieces display a Setmakers logo, show minor handling wear, and condition is Fine.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
