Description

Ludwig Bemelmans (attributed) Circus Elephants Original Art (c. 1950s). Bemelmans' bright and relaxed style graced many an issue of The New Yorker and defined the Madeline series of books for children. This circus scene is of undocumented publishing pedigree, but it appears to have served as a spot-illustration for a book or magazine story. The distinctive initial "B" (lower right) is consistent with the artist's more familiar full signature. Graphite on bond. Image area, 15" x 6". Moderate age-toning, light wrinkling, and a barked and nicked right edge. Good condition.
