Description

J.S. Smith Starving John Bull Out Illustration Original Art (c. 1910s). A WWI-era battle of nerves between Great Britain and Germany inspires this evocative commentary. The well-preserved piece sports no identifying marks other than the signature, but Smith's name is associated with both Judge and Leslie's Weekly, trailblazing satirical publications. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 11.5" x 12.25". Light toning. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
