Description

John Buscema Silver Surfer #1 Cover Re-Creation Original Art (1990s). An absolutely huge re-creation measuring 19" x 28"! The poster-size re-creations by Buscema that exist were all commissioned by one top collector, and this is the only Surfer #1 done in that size (the others Big John did were one each of Silver Surfer #4, Sub-Mariner #6, Avengers #57, Fantastic Four #112, and two versions of Avengers Annual #2). The man who commissioned these tells us, "John stopped doing the oversized ones because he was inking on the floor -- they were too big for his drawing table and he felt uncomfortable." The talented Buscema worked on nearly every ongoing series while a mainstay with Marvel Comics, producing countless covers -- with none more recognizable than the cover of Silver Surfer #1 from 1968, an iconic image featuring the estranged herald of Galactus. Rendered in ink over graphite and blue pencil on poster board. Slight toning, with rippling from the amount of ink needed to complete the massive piece. Signed by Buscema in the lower image area and in Very Good condition.
