Description
Joe Shuster Superman #1 Cover Re-Creation Illustration Original Art (1982). History was made in 1939 with the arrival of Superman #1, a landmark publication that was not only a major moment for the character, but also for the comic book industry itself. As the first comic book devoted entirely to a single superhero, it helped usher in a new era of storytelling and laid the groundwork for the cultural phenomenon superheroes would eventually become. Joe Shuster provided the perfect cover image, depicting Superman hovering above the city in a powerful display of his abilities. Interestingly, the image was ahead of its time, as the Man of Steel could not yet fly when Superman #1 was published, being described instead as "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound." Shuster rendered this detailed re-creation in colored pencil on textured illustration board with a 10" x 13.5" image area. In Excellent condition.From the Silver Stone Gallery Collection.
