Description

Jim Starlin Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19 Pin-Up Illustration Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1975). Originally published as a wash-tone showcase page, this dynamic large-scale portrait of Shang-Chi, the steadfast martial artist and subject of the 2021 feature film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, captures ably the nature of the long-running series. Co-creator Starlin is working here in an unusual combination of media, juxtaposing solid-black Higgins Ink with Chinese White watercolor drizzlings and crosshatched wax pencil in layered sepiatone. The left-hand foreshortening recalls the early-1960s visual experiments of Jack Kirby. The image area measures 15.75" x 23". Very Good condition, with light handling wear to the page-stock and moderate retouching on the Yin/Yang symbol (lower center).
