Description

Howard Shoemaker - Porsche Single Panel Gag Illustration Original Art (1982). "Actually... according to the rules, there's nothing that says they can... then again... it doesn't say they can't!" A Porsche racing team finds a loophole big enough to drive through, covering its car in risqué advertising while the steward comes up empty in the rulebook. The gag is right in the wheelhouse of Howard "Shoe" Shoemaker, a lifelong Porsche enthusiast who contributed to Christophorus and Road & Track, published a 1964 book of Porsche cartoons, and supplied cartoon illustrations to Playboy from 1959 to 2006. Created in ink, wash, and marker over graphite on Bristol board with an 18.5" x 14" image area. Light smudging, whiteout touch-ups/highlights, and light corner wear. Signed and dated by Shoemaker in the left center image area. In Excellent condition.
