Description

Henry Patrick Raleigh The Saturday Evening Post Original Art (Curtis Publ., 1920s). Raleigh's exquisite drawings assured him of prominence among the leading fiction-magazine artists of the 1920s-30s -- the guy could make a pencil perform feats of wonder beyond the grasp of many another artist. The present selection catches Raleigh at a peak of storytelling prowess, moody and evocative. Graphite and watercolors on illustration board. Dimensions, 13.5" x 15.25", matted out to 17.75" x 20". Overall toning, natural smudging endemic to the medium, with adhesive residue on image. Matte shows surface dirt and wear at the corners and side edges, due to slight brittleness. Corners are rounded, with missing fragments. Two-inch crack at upper right edge of matte. Withal in Very Good condition.
