Description

Henry Patrick Raleigh The Saturday Evening Post Original Art (c. 1920s). Raleigh was among the royalty of slick-magazine illustrators during the 1920s and 1930s. His credential is undimmed by time and shifting tastes, although he went through a stretch of obscurity after some influential Modernists had deemed his work "old-fashioned." (Scratch that "old-fashioned" and add "timeless" to Raleigh's enduring appeal.) The guy could accomplish with a simple pencil more than many other artists could do with an arsenal of paints. Graphite on illustration board, with watercolor touches. Dimensions, 16.75" x 12.25', matted out to 20.5" x 16.5". Overall age-toning. Two glue-sealed cracks (lower right) run approximately 7.5". A bygone framing has caused a tape-pull effect around the margins. Push-pin or tack punctures at upper border. Slight wear to bottom corners. Withal in Very Good condition.
