Description

Harrison Cady Peter Rabbit Scene Original Art (Thornton W. Burgess Society, c. 1930s). Author Thornton Burgess' version of Peter Rabbit, the comic-strip and nursery-tales character, is indelibly tied to the fanciful illustrations of Cady. (There is no kinship here with the Peter Rabbit character of Beatrix Potter, although Burgess acknowledged Potter as an inspiration.) And now that that's all settled, here is a splendid Cady drawing, rich in the sense of wonder that characterizes all his work, whether in books or in the funnypapers. The publishing pedigree here is undocumented. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 7.25" x 7.25", sealed and matted to 12.25" x 12.25. Excellent condition.
