Description
George Herriman archy does his part Illustration Original Art (Doubleday Publ., 1935). "You should have heard him roar ... when I sunk my teeth in him," reads the caption. Most widely known for the fanciful comic strip Krazy Kat, the great Creole artist Herriman also provided covers and interiors for columnist Don Marquis' offbeat archy and mehitabel books. (And yes, the lower-case titles are correct -- a deliberate stylistic touch.) This piece accompanied a poem by Archy the Cockroach titled "small talk." Ink and blade-scratching highlights on 6.25" x 9.25" Bristol board. Signed with an "H" at upper right. There are glue stains in the upper corners and foxing in the image area and margins. Intact, however, and in Good condition.More information about George Herriman. See also: Herriman, George Artist.
