Gene Deitch Record Changer Magazine "The Cat" Illustration Original Art (Record Changer, 1946). This hep cat magazine showed what's buzzin', cousin. Dig Gene Deitch's crazy style. His artwork was cool and all over this magazine like a rash. He would go on to work for UPA Studios, where his work would influence the Mr. Magoo cartoons. He also created Tom Terrific, which ran on the Captain Kangaroo show in the 1950s. This particular piece was first printed in the May, 1946 issue of Record Changer, and reprinted in the 2003 book Cat On A Hot Thin Groove, published by Fantagraphics. It is created in ink over graphite on 9" x 12" illustration board. The board is lightly tanned, with a corner nick in the bottom left, handling wear on the edges, and slight discoloration in "The Cat" paste-up. Any Gene Deitch piece of original art like this is as hard to track down as the rarest of records. Overall in Very Good condition and definitely worth your bread, brother!
