Description

Gaar Williams Our Secret Ambition Daily Single-Panel Comic Strip Original Art, dated 6-28-32 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1932). Williams' famous Everyman character realizes one Secret Ambition -- but there'll be heck to pay when he gets home to his wife... A classic variation on an old "the worm turns" scenario -- and as relevant today as it was in Williams' time. Williams' lively ink-line is a marvel, and his Everyman remains an identifiable presence, defiant of time and trends. So attuned is the artist's vision to life's awkward realities, that his cartoons remained in circulation almost a generation after his death. Today, the pieces are eminently collectible. Image area, 13" square. Moderate age-toning, with lightly barked corners and edges, spot-staining and spot-smudging, and marginal scuffing. Very Good condition. From the Ray Edw Collection.
