Description

Frank Stack "Party Hard with Jesus" Specialty Illustration Original Art (2009). This spontaneous composition captures Underground Comix pioneer Stack in the act of revisiting a signature character -- his radical re-imagining of Jesus Christ -- in an energetic and Expressionistic dance scene. The Stack version dates from the early 1960s, as a seminal Underground presence. The signature (as Frank "Foolbert" Stack) alludes to Stack's customary pen-name, Foolbert Sturgeon. The sophisticated pen-and-brush technique reflects Stack's academic background as a tenured professor of fine art at the University of Missouri. Inscribed at lower left. Ink over graphite on watercolor stock. Dimensions, 8.5" x 11". Excellent condition.
