    Description

Eric Goldberg Popeye and Henry Original Illustration (National Cartoonists Society, 2019). What have E.C. Segar's Popeye the Sailor and Carl Anderson's Henry in common, besides the gluteus maximus chin? Well, both characters became animated-cartoon figures -- both adapted by the Fleischer Studios: Popeye, in a long-running 1930s series of one-reelers, and Henry in a one-shot 1935 romp called "Betty Boop with Henry, the Funniest Living American." Modern-day animator Goldberg marks Popeye's 90th anniversary with this crossover, moderated by a surly Olive Oyl. (Henry is only three years younger than Popeye.) Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 16". Excellent condition.

Proceeds from the winning bids in this special NCS "Popeye the Sailor's 90th Birthday" auction will go to the NCS Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that works in tandem with the National Cartoonists Society to advance the ideals and standards of the cartooning profession, to stimulate and encourage aspiring cartoonists through scholarships and educational programs, and to provide financial assistance to cartoonists and their families in times of hardship.
