Edgar Church Weldon's Stables Advertisement Illustration Original Art (1944). Church's meticulous touch shows vividly in this advertisement for a prominent stable. The comics-style aspect derives from Church's lifelong passion for the comics: He was one of the first big-time collectors, assembling the legendary Mile High archive as a source of reference and enjoyment -- back when a first-generation funnybook still cost only 10 cents at the newsstand. Created in ink over graphite and Zipatone on illustration board with an image area of 7.25" x 14.5". Slight toning, discoloration in the Zipatone, dust shadows, and handling and edge wear. The first layer of the illustration board is coming loose at the corners and the onion skin overlay is coming loose from the board it is stapled to. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
