Ed Hannigan and Joe Rubinstein Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition Unpublished Cover Patch Illustrations Original Art (Marvel, 1986). These five figures seem to have been designed as cover patches for the previously published first series from 1984. By 1986, Spider-Man had already gone through his Symbiote costume phase, and was wearing a plain black version of that costume. The figure here is in exactly the same position as he was on the cover if OHotMU #10 in 1983, hence the theory this was a patch for that cover art. In addition, all of the characters are wearing the same costumes they are wearing in this Deluxe Edition from 1986. It is possible Marvel originally planned to re-use the 1983 cover art on this 1986 updated series. Also included on this piece are Shadowcat, Silver Sable, Spider-Woman, and Sif. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 15" x 10". The board is toned, and lightly soiled. In Very Good condition.More information about Ed Hannigan.
