Description
Dick Ayers and Jack Abel 1978 Calendar of Super-Spectacular Disasters September Illustration Original Art (DC, 1977). The Freedom Fighters are spotlighted for the month of September from this action-packed calendar. They are fighting Flamesplasher, who had (at that point) only appeared in Teen Titans #47, inked by Dick Ayers. The Ayers/Abel team handled the art on 8 out of 15 issues for the Freedom Fighters comic. Pictured center is The Ray, surrounded by Uncle Sam, Phantom Lady, Black Condor, the Human Bomb, and Doll Man. These were Quality Comics characters that DC acquired in 1956 and then formed into a team in 1973's Justice League of America #107 by writer Len Wein. This calendar illo was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 16.25" x 14.5". Light tanning and some water stains in the top margin; however, the image area is in otherwise Excellent condition.More information about Dick Ayers.
