Darwyn Cooke - Justice League Batman Animated Style Guide Illustration Original Art (DC/Warner Bros., 2001). The square-jawed Dark Knight charges into battle in the unmistakable style of the DC Animated Universe, first introduced in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series. This piece was rendered by Eisner Award-winner Darwyn Cooke for a DCAU style guide created to support the launch of Justice League, which expanded the animated universe beyond Batman and Superman. This striking image of the Dark Knight became a cornerstone of the DCAU's visual identity, appearing widely across advertising, merchandise, and promotional materials. Its repeated use cemented it as one of the most recognizable depictions of Batman from this era. Cooke, known for his retro-modern style later perfected in Justice League: The New Frontier, was a fitting choice, having been personally selected by Bruce Timm to storyboard those earlier series, he helped define the look and feel of these iconic characters and their world. Crafted in pure graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 8" x 8.5", with some light handling wear. The back of the board has production notes alongside a signature from Cooke.
