Description

Cy Hungerford Snoodles Greeting Original Art (1917). Though best known as a political cartoonist of withering sarcasm, Hungerford also excelled as a kid-stuff humorist. His comic strip, Snoodles (1913 and onward), features a mischievous child who might be an ancestor of Dennis the Menace. This brightly composed New Year's greeting features the principals of that groundbreaking feature. The personalized inscription hails A.E. Braun, a prominent businessman and political figure in Pittsburgh, where Hungerford based his career. Ink and translucent watercolors over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8" x 6.75", framed to 13" x 11.5. Moderate, even age-toning. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
