Description

Clifford McBride Napoleon & Uncle Elby Original Art (c. 1930s). Comics historian R.C. Harvey writes of McBride: "...great verve and an exuberant pen ... vitally energetic." McBride's strip concerns "a stout bachelor and his giant pet," Uncle Elby and Napoleon, achieving what the critic Dennis Wepman called "a beautifully balanced team-the fat man, all stasis and order, and the lean dog, all motion and chaos." This brilliant stand-alone spinoff panel captures that balance ideally. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8" x 10". Light toning and marginal push-pin punctures. Excellent condition. From A Collection of Great Cartoonists and Illustrators.
