Description

Clark Ashton Smith The Castaway Illustration Original Art (c. 1930s). A desperate castaway hails his saving grace, an approaching ship, in this curious mixed media piece by the enigmatic Clark Ashton Smith. A true Renaissance figure of the macabre, Smith earned acclaim not only for his weird fiction in pulps like Strange Tales and Amazing Stories, but also for his haunting poetry, sculpture, painting, and drawings. Created in crayon, watercolor, and ink on art paper with an edge-to-edge image area of 4.25" x 5.75". Toning, minor wrinkling, minor abrasions, corner creasing, and handling wear. Titled and signed by Smith on the back. In Very Good condition.
