    Description

Carl Barks Mickey and Minnie Mouse Disney Try-Out Illustration Original Art (1935). In November, 1935, Carl Barks submitted several Mickey Mouse illustrations, done in a similar style to Floyd Gottfredson's 1934 daily strip storyline, "The Bat Bandit of Inferno Gulch." The samples got him in at the Disney studio, and Barks relocated from Minneapolis to California to begin his long association with the Disney company. This attractive piece is drawn in ink, graphite, and light blue wash, and has an image area of approximately 12.25" x 9". On the back is written in ink, "This drawing was submitted to Disney's hiring officer in 1935 as a sample of my drawing ability. It helped get me hired," and is signed Carl Barks. The art is lightly soiled along the outer border areas, but for the most part is in Excellent condition.
