Carl Barks Long Ben, Arch Pirate Illustration Original Art, Personal Correspondence, and Ephemera Group Lot (1978). From his post-Disney period when Barks was painting "Famous figures from history as they might have looked had their genes gotten mixed with waterfowl". In fact, "Long Ben" is from a sub-set of that series, which consisted of four paintings of pirates. This particular piece is known to Barks fans by its title and also cataloged as "78-36". Created with his usual charm and comedic cartooning skills, but also check out the incredible detail on this piece. From the over-stuff pirate's chest to the shades of green in his plumes. The watercolor work is signed and dated in the lower right of the 8" x 10" matted image area in the 14.5" x 17.5" Plexiglas-front wooden frame. The painting comes with correspondence between Barks and the purchaser of the painting, and the bill of sale. The painting appeared on the cover of Panels #2 in 1981 (included). Also included are several other personal correspondence letters from Barks, a few endorsed/canceled checks, and some other ephemera. The original art is in Excellent condition, and the rest in is Very Good to Excellent condition.
