Bill Elder EC Comics Subscription Ad Illustration Original Art (EC, c. 1954). Will Elder caricatures the entire EC Comics Bullpen and staff on this stunning piece that is chock-full-o' gags and jabs! He pictures himself as part of a three-headed-terror, sharing shoulders with Wally Wood and Jack Davis. From the top down, everyone gets a moment on this piece... from the boss, publisher Bill Gaines, to the Business Manager Lyle Stuart, and even office girls Nancy Siegel and Shirley Norris. Nancy Siegel and Bill Gaines were married in 1955, so this likely is from before that. Crafted in ink and Zipatone on Bristol board. All lettering is hand-lettered. There are some creases in the board, and a 4" rip in the subscription text section. There is a missing paste-up over the title "The Board of Educational Comics", leaving glue residue. Signed by Elder in the lower right of the 21.5" x 13.5" image area. Glass front framed to 25.5" x 17.75". In Very Good condition. From the MAD Collection of Annie Gaines Ashton.
