Bernie Wrightson The Lost Frankenstein Pages Plate Illustration Original Art (1980). This is certainly among the finest illustrations Wrightson created for what many consider his "Magnum Opus" of an already stellar career and, although it wasn't included in the original Frankenstein book, it did find a place in the later published The Lost Frankenstein Pages.At the top, viewers see Victor Frankenstein lying by the pond where he collapsed from exhaustion. But as the viewer's eyes move slowly down, Wrightson exposes the scene in full detail as the fine line work of the lush forest and crosshatched grass and trees convey the somber beauty of author Shelley's tragic tale.
As Christopher Xavisa noted in Bernie Wrightson: A Look Back, where this piece is pictured, "When Wrightson would show it to someone for the first time, they inevitably turned it upside down," leading to its being left out of the original book. Once the winning bidder has it hanging on the wall there will be no such confusion, and Wrightson's eye-popping draftsmanship is what endures!
Ink over graphite on Bristol board with a matted image area of 11" x 16" and an overall framed size of 19.25" x 25.5". The frame shows some nicks and wear on the edges. Art is signed and in Excellent condition.
