Bernie Wrightson Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein Portfolio Plate One Illustration Original Art (Les Editions du Triton, 1980). "I shall be with you on your wedding night." Originally published in the third Frankenstein limited edition portfolio from 1980 (all three of Wrightson's Frankenstein portfolios predated the ultimate 1983 book publication, which omitted some plates), this absolutely incredible lab scene showcases Dr. Frankenstein and his monstrous creation. As with all of Wrightson's career-defining work on this project, the piece is brimming with an extraordinary amount of detail and intricate crosshatching. Of all the plates, the lab scene subject matter on this one ranks it as one of the most desirable. This piece was later published in The Lost Frankenstein Pages (Apple Press, 1993) and has also been featured in various card sets and other releases. Created in ink on illustration board, with an image area of 11.5" x 16.5". Signed/dated on a paste-up strip in the lower right. Also personalized and signed in the lower left margin under the image area. The board is lightly toned, with handling wear. In Very Good condition.From the David Mandel Collection.
