Description
Alex Raymond - Pagan Lee from Rip Kirby - Washington and Lee University 200th Anniversary Publication Illustration Original Art (Washington and Lee, 1949). Pagan Lee was a gun moll who reformed due to her love for Rip Kirby. Alex Raymond created a new kind of Private Investigator strip with Kirby... equal parts Noir and Hep, Rip was one cool cat. Of course this just gave Raymond all the more excuses to draw lovely women, which we greatly appreciate. This piece was created specifically for a publication celebrating the 200th anniversary of Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9" x 9.5", with a personal note from "Pagan Lee" addressed "...from one Lee to another". A notation on the back of the board indicates it was likely for Page 32 of the publication. Signed in the image area. In Excellent condition.More information about Alex Raymond.
