Description

Al Jaffee Trump #2 Illustration Original Art (Playboy Press, 1957). Trump -- an elaborate spinoff of Hugh Hefner's Playboy magazine -- was Harvey Kurtzman's next major humor project (after MAD and before Humbug). Here, Kurtzman involved his stock company of brilliant artists in a wealth of satirical brilliance. The book proved too good to last -- only two issues -- but its concentration of wit and cynicism remains vital. This Jaffee miniature accompanied a parody of Sports Illustrated magazine, singling out a combination of a fashion show with a fishing expedition. (The models are identified as Skinee Gam and Bonie Frame.) Greyscale gouache on board. Image area, 3.75" x 5.5". Excellent condition.
