Description

Al Jaffee The Cartoonist July-August 2004 Rube Goldberg Cover Illustration Original Art (National Cartoonists Society, 2004). MAD legend Al Jaffee turns the joke on himself in this hilarious illustration imagining his childhood meeting with Rube Goldberg. Titled "The First Cartoonist I Ever Met", a nervous young Jaffee sweats as Goldberg casually blows cigar smoke over one of his strips, while seated at his drawing table working on a parody of one of his famous contraptions -- one that may come in handy in this very moment -- aptly titled "How to Dispose of Pesky Visitors." The illustration appeared on the cover of The Cartoonist, the National Cartoonists Society's members-only newsletter devoted to the life and craft of the profession. Rendered in ink on vellum affixed to Bristol board with an image area of 7.25" x 6.75", matted and glass-front framed to 11.75" x 11.75". Three areas have been cut out and filled with inked artwork on the backing board, along with an art paste-up for Goldberg's foot. The art exhibits light smudging, whiteout touch-ups, and minor handling wear. In Very Good condition.
