Description

Al Hirschfeld Wallace Beery in Film "Rationing" Original Caricature (1944). Hirschfeld often caricatured Beery, Old Hollywood's most boisterous leading man, but seldom gave him such a cuddly expression as seen in this fine study. The nose here appears more broadly contoured and outward-tilted, and the laugh-lines about the eyes extend to the eyes themselves. A brilliant rarity, representative of a co-starring film, Rationing, with Marjorie Main. Ink over graphite on illustration board. Image area, 9" x 10". Moderate, near-uniform toning. Excellent condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.

More Information: Amended to add related film title, Rationing, and its correct year, 1944.
