Harvey Kurtzman Weird Fantasy #16 Complete 7-Page Story "Mysterious Ray" Original Art (EC, 1950). Some 20 years have passed since such a Kurtzman science-fiction gem has appeared here. The namesake of the Harvey Awards was not only essential to the EC brand, but also a seminal creator - especially in the realms of SF, the MAD school of humor, and combinations thereof. The present story is a study in irony, structured like a good joke but with a cosmic payoff... the nearly trade-marked "EC Twist" ending. Kurtzman's turn-key art is essential to a definition of the EC style. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 18". What might appear to be gouged areas are, in fact, examples of knife-blade retouching. Toning (darker at borders), smudges, and creasing. Page 3 has a small tear at the bottom, and Page 7 shows spot-staining at the borders. Overall in Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
