Hal Foster Prince Valiant Sunday Comic Strip #400 and The Medieval Castle Companion Strip Original Art dated 10-8-44 (King Features Syndicate, 1944). This is the entire Sunday page from this date, both the Prince Valiant top portion and the matching companion strip The Medieval Castle which ran underneath it. The companion piece ran from 4-30-44 until 11-24-45. It started because during wartime, the government asked newspaper syndicates to reduce their strip size in order to get more strips on a page and therefore save paper for the war effort. King Features realized they had the entire page and didn't want to lose any space, so they had Foster create a new strip to fill it up. These strips are ink over graphite on Bristol board with a combined image area of approximately 24.5" x 34".
