Gustav Tenggren Tawny Scrawny Lion and Poky Little Puppy Original Art (Simon & Schuster/Little Golden Books, c. 1950s). Tenggren, a Disney alumnus, became a bestselling kid-book illustrator in 1942 with The Poky Little Puppy, a fable about a naughty pooch. The artist followed through with additional such eccentric creatures for Little Golden Books, peaking in 1952 with The Tawny Scrawny Lion, about a carnivore who goes vegan. This unusual pairing of Tenggren's signature characters combines two illustrations into a single montage. Ink and drybrush watercolors over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 8" x 7.5". Light scuffing at far right. Excellent condition.
