Gordon Hope Grant Woman with Pug Dog Original Illustration (c. 1900s). A glamorous change-of-pace for Grant, an eminent American artist best known for his maritime watercolors (including a famous image of the U.S.S. Constitution); World War I morale-booster posters; and illustrations on behalf of the Boy Scouting movement. The present image is reminiscent of the portraiture of Charles Dana Gibson. The decorative signature is consistent with that of Grant's better-known compositions, with the addition of the seldom-used middle initial. Ink over graphite on heavy illustration board. Conspicuous age-toning and spot-staining, more pronounced at left margin. Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
