George Roussos with Al Williamson Weird Fantasy #7 Splash Page for "Across the Sun" Original Art (EC Comics, 1951). Veteran Roussos receives the acknowledged assistance of then-newcomer Williamson (signed) on this shadow-laden establishing page for one of EC's more foreboding SF stories -- the first of three such Roussos jobs. His work at EC places Roussos in a middle ground between freelancer and staffer, and although he is seldom regarded as an EC artist, he did contribute nine stories (in various genres) to the censor-bait pre-Code line. Williamson would mature rapidly as a consummate SF artist, but here he was a 21-year-old novice, eager to learn from the senior contributors. A lettering correction (lower left) has loosened, exposing the original typographical error. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 18". Excellent condition, with light to moderate toning and minimal adhesive staining. From the Glynn and Suzanne Crain Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
