George Rife Clark and Others - Various Comic Strips and Illustrations Original Art Group of 12 (1900s-1930s). Clark's sarcastic Side Glances panel ran from 1929 until 1939, when Clark moved the feature to a rival syndicate under a new title, The Neighbors. This choice specimen toplines a dandy array of historic rarities, dating from around the dawn of the 20th century. There is a selection of Nate Collier's perceptive gagwork; a grim lynch-mob scene signed as Gillam; a Clifton Meek transformation strip where a pair of scissors morphs into a yawning man; a grinning hippopotamus signed as Murray; an E.A. Miller commentary on evolution; a Judge magazine piece comparing city cops with rural cops; and an embittered-but-amusing rant about stock-market fraud. A handful of pieces contain indecipherable signatures. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 5" x 17" to 12" x 16". Some torn areas in individual pieces; with overall age-toning and some brittle areas. Average Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
