George Herriman Krazy Kat Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-3-43 (King Features Syndicate, 1943). A harbinger of Spring... in October? This Jazz Age great is an amazing piece of U.S. cultural history. One of the first creators to completely blur the lines between what is Jazz, language, and image into a surreal yet cohesive and functional whole, Herriman remains to this day a respected forefather of the comics medium. His artistic layouts broke what few conventions there were in comic strips at that time, to show that a mere gag strip could be oh so much more. This strip features the full cast of Krazy Kat, Ignatz Mouse, and Offisa Pup of Coconino County. Of note in this strip is the talking plant. It doesn't say "Groot," but it does say "Poo." This amazing and wonderful strip is matted and framed. The image area measures approximately 14.5" x 22". Slight tanning. Only the missing syndication paste-up and some minor imperfections kept us from grading this higher. In Very Good condition. From the Bill Mauldin Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
