George Herriman archy does his part Interior Illustration Original Art (Doubleday, 1935). "i am in fact - becoming a low brow." Archy the Cockroach types by jumping from key to key. We had assumed feet-first. But this piece, and the Archy story it illustrated (titled "archy a low brow") shows he dives head-first onto the keys at considerable personal injury over time. And as he cannot hold down the shift-key at the same time, he cannot use capital letters. Creator and writer Don Marquis could not have picked a better artist for this series of newspaper features-turned-collected-book, as George Herriman (creator of Krazy Kat) infused every drawing with his own wacky and wonky surreal sense of humor. Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 5.75" x 8.25". Signed with an "H." in the lower right. The lightly toned board has foxing, some glue residue, and minor stains. In Very Good condition.
